The Miley Cyrus People Magazine is finally out with about 20 of my photographs that were taken in nashville(all in one day!) just days before the big scandal withe the Annie “nude” shots broke wide open. Except for the Beauty issue shot that we did in front of the green truck, all of our imagery was geared to the preteen set and in keeping within the Disney mold. Young, bright and poppy was the formula. Miley Cyrus is a very precocious young woman who exhudes a natural confidence and a powerful sensuality and the image that caused all the bruhaha was in my opinion a slightly more accurate rendition of who she actually is becoming as a person. One sunday morning last month I got into a huge screaming argument with my father in law about whether the image was offensive or not.
He is a conservative catholic and was deeply offended by the image. He thought it was “despicable” and “decadent” and “abhorrent” and started yelling at me like it was my fault. Of course he had not even seen the pic or even ever looked at Vanity Fair. I on the other hand, took a stand vouching for the image as a beautiful work of art by the greatest photographer of our time. I mentioned that nudity had been used in classic european art for centuries but I dont think he heard me. With no way to really win an argument with a religious fanatic I left the room and went out to mow the lawn.
