SUB POP Party!!

By michael lavine in Music

Sub Pop held their 20th anniversary festival a few weeks back and at the last minute all the stars aligned and I was able to sneak away from my business and family responsibilities and make it to Seattle for the big event. It was quite a reunion for alot of us, I spent a lot of time bumping into people I hadn’t seen in 10, 15, 20 years. The shows were great, I especially enjoyed Mudhoney, The Vaselines and the Pissed Jeans. I had gone to college with the founder Bruce Pavitt and photographed may of the the early subpop bands for him so it really was a trip down memory lane. Bruce had kind of gone off the deep end a bit hanging with the Burning Man crew but lately he’s back at Sub Pop making things happen again. I found it particularly funny and cool when bruce said in a philosophical tone “You know, you plant a seed (pauses, raises hands and looks around) and look what happens”
