Video killed the photography star.

Call it whatever you want. The ethereal snapshot. A technological revolution. The death of print. But one thing is for sure. The devaluation of photography is upon us. The act of making photographs has been simplified to the point of having the secretary shooting the annual report.
I remember back in the stone age, way back in the eightie’s, when we used to have to shoot chrome. If you were off by 1/10 of a stop your image was ruined. Now, you dont even need a light meter. I feel bad for the lightmeter companies. So many of the challenges that photographers used to face are gone. The good news is that there’s so much great photography being made right now. Everywhere I look I see powerful imagery dominating the web. The challenge now is to fend off the competition. The challenge now is it to do something the other guy can’t.
The challenge now is to adapt or die. Personally, I am interested in enhancing my photographic vision with the wonders of motion and sound.
To me that’s a challenge I am excited about.

This is a little test I made for Ernie at Time inc. I will be rolling out quite a bit of video so keep your hand off the dial!

    Michael,

I agree, things are changing. I think it is a great idea to expand your creative output with video. You almost have to. We are controlled by the media and its demands; and lately it seems like video is really blowing up. Especially how it is now running in magazines. Keep it going, I will definitely be checking back.
